Below are two sets of instructions:
- Single-user sharing & membership control
- Group-based sharing & automatic membership setup
These instructions assume the person is a SharePoint Site Owner (not a global admin).
✅ 1. Single User, Owner, and Membership Sharing
A. Add a User to the Site (as Member, Visitor, or Owner)
- Go to your SharePoint site.
- Click Settings (⚙️) → Site permissions.
- Select Invite people.
- Choose one:
- Add members to group → Gives them editing rights.
- Share site only → Gives them read-only access.
- Enter the user’s email address.
- Select the correct permission:
- Owners → Full control
- Members → Edit
- Visitors → Read-only
- Click Add.
That’s it—user is now in the site’s built‑in SharePoint group.
B. Give a User Access to a Specific File or Folder
- Hover over the file or folder.
- Click the Share icon.
- Choose the link settings:
- Specific people (recommended for control)
- People with existing access
- Enter their email.
- Choose permissions:
- Can view
- Can edit
- Click Send.
Note: Sharing individual files does not add them as members of the Site.
C. Make Someone a Site Owner
- Go to Site permissions.
- Click Advanced permission settings.
- Open the Owners group.
- Click New → Add users.
- Enter the person’s email and select Share.
