In an announcement published to the
Google Security Blog, the search giant said users of its Chrome browser will be warned when accessing non-secure websites, starting January 2017. Google continues: Users won't be blocked from accessing non-secure sites, but they will be alerted when visiting an address that doesn't use an encrypted connection.
Websites with a "HTTPS" added before the URL indicate an added level of security to normal web browsing, compared to visiting a non-secure "HTTP" connection. This guarantees users are reaching the website they intend to visit, and the extra security protects them against hackers.

HTTP, or hypertext transfer protocol, is the way a Web server communicates with browsers like Internet Explorer® and Mozilla Firefox®. HTTP lets visitors view a site and send information back to the Web server.
HTTPS, hypertext transfer protocol secure, is HTTP through a secured connection. Communications through an HTTPS server are encrypted by a secure certificate known as an SSL. The encryption prevents third-parties from eavesdropping on communications to and from the server.
"When you load a website over HTTP, someone else on the network can look at or modify the site before it gets to you," Google explained in their statement.
Emails have been sent to all Connect clients that have not updated their websites, domains and emails with a valid SSL and HTTPS encryption. All hosting accounts that do not follow the HEEPS directives will be removed from Connect Servers in 2017. An SSL Certificate is responsible for creating secure communication between client and server. Connect, 2u2 Web Technologies, provides a free shared SSL Certificate available to all accounts residing on shared IP addresses.
